Introduction to Pastel Painting

Instructor Gianne de Genevraye
Pastel has a long and illustrious history dating back to the 1600's, and because it's a dry medium, it's the closest to pure color of any painting medium. Internationally acclaimed painter Gianne de Genevraye conducts an exclusive Susi Q workshop that begins with a brief history of pastel painting followed up with an interactive demonstration of pastel techniques — you'll blend, feather, stipple and more. (Worksheets provided to students upon registration).
​20 students maximum.
Supplies you will need:
1. Beginner set of DRY pastels
2. 2 apples to draw (red, yellow, green, or your choice to mix or all one color)
3. Pastel paper: available at art shops — 9" x 12"
4. Paper towels, a few Q-Tips and cotton balls
About Gianne

International painter Gianne de Genevraye paints public gardens in Europe, Japan, Mexico the UK and the United States. She is a Contemporary Nature Painter, exhibiting widely with work seen in collections in prestigious garden and city collections. A California native, she lives in both France and Laguna Beach while doing art residencies in gardens around the world. She is invited to teach at the Annenberg Foundation yearly, and recently exhibited at the Newport Public Library. Gianne has embraced the concept of sustainability and is committed to help frame the discussion of conservation through the aesthetics of painting water wise gardens. gianne@gianne.org

Yoga Nidra: Graceful Transitions

Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep) guides one into a deep state of consciousness between awake and asleep, which has been shown to reduce anxiety and pain, and restore well-being even in the state of dis-ease, dying and grief. Please create a space where you can completely relax.
You will need a yoga mat, pillow, and a blanket, or you may lie on a lounge chair or a bed.

“Live at the Q!” Chamber Music Series

Laguna Beach Live! and the Susi Q continue their partnership with a new virtual performance by rising stars from Chamber Music|OC's Pre-College Program. Violist Zara Amendt and Violinist Matthew Yee will play selected works by Bach, Paganini, Stamitz and Novacek. (With post-performance Q & A.)
About the artists:
Violist Zara Amendt (14), a freshman at Mater Dei High School, studies viola with Michelle Gasworth. In the past three years, she was in the Santiago Strings Youth Orchestra and served as the principal violist for multiple concerts. In her first year with Chamber Music | OC’s Pre-College Program, Zara is looking forward to participating in the upcoming master classes and immersing herself in her assigned chamber ensemble.
Chinese-American violinist Matthew Yee has performed as soloist in major venues across the country including Chicago Symphony Center, Segerstrom Center for the Arts, and Soka Performing Arts Center. He currently studies with Matthew Fang, and was a prizewinner at numerous competitions including the American String Teachers Association, John Walker Competition, and Redlands Bowl. Matthew served as Associate Concertmaster of the Orange County Youth Symphony, and has performed with other ensembles including the Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra, and Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association.
