Week 1: Clouds of Sils Maria (2014) A veteran actress (Juliette Binoche) comes face-to-face with an uncomfortable reflection of herself when she agrees to take part in a revival of the play that launched her career.
Week 2: Transit (2018) by German writer-director Christian Petzold. As fascism spreads, German refugee George flees to Marseilles and assumes the identity of the dead writer whose transit papers he is carrying.
Week 3: The Farewell (2019), written and directed by Lulu Wang. Billi's family returns to China under the guise of a fake wedding to stealthily say goodbye to their beloved matriarch -- the only person who doesn't know she only has a few weeks to live.
Week 4: The Oscar-nominated Cold War (2018) by Pawel Pawlikowsk. Set in the 1950’s, a music director falls in love with a singer and tries to persuade her to flee communist Poland for France.
Week 5: The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister (2010) tells the story of Anne Lister, 1791-1840, a Yorkshire landowner, industrialist, traveler and diarist who kept her orientation secret but in private defied convention by living with her female lover.
About Kathryn: K.L. Kramer has taught Film as Literature academically at three colleges and won the AFI Independent Filmmaker Prize for her short film work and screenplays.
